My Learnings

Getting into the internship, I had noted down what I wanted to gain from the experience. My time as intern proved to be so much more fruitful than what I had hoped.

My primary expectation was to get a sense of how corporate design culture works and whether it would be a good fit for me as a design professional. I was pleasantly surprised by how collaborative and supportive working with the different teams were. A key thing I realised is that I don’t have to do everything by myself! Relying on teams that specialise in different parts of the design process leads to a more holistic and global design output; and while the teams were distinct, the workflow was very open and the various verticals were not closed off and invited feedback and opinions from others.

I was able to come out of my shell, and get over the mental block of public presentations and asking for help. I learnt the crucial role of storytelling in truly showcasing the value and process of my designs. I was able to network with the global Oracle Design team, with interns and employees from USA, Mexico and India. Learning about their own design processes compared to my own allowed me to reflect and look at problems through different lenses.

Overall, this internship led to immense growth in me as a designer and a professional. Here are some highlights that hope to capture my experience in snapshots!
